Microsoft decided to stop updating Windows 10 because it’s reaching the end of its official support lifecycle something every version of Windows eventually goes through.

Microsoft announced that Windows 10 support will officially end on October 14, 2025. That means Windows 10 will no longer receive updates after that date. Those updates are -

  • Security patches
  • Bug fixes
  • New features

Why Microsoft is ending it's update

There are several main reasons that are...

1. Focus on new technology

Microsoft focuses resources on Windows 11 and future versions that support:
  • Modern hardware, like newer CPUs.
  • Better security
  • New features

2. Old system architecture

Windows 10 was built on technology from the early 2010s.
Maintaining it for newer hardware and apps became increasingly complex and inefficient.

3. Encourage upgrades

Microsoft is encouraging users to move to Windows 11, which:
  • Has better performance and security.
  • It is optimized for newer processors.
  • Supports modern design and productivity tools.

What happens after 14 October 2025

  • Your computer will still work with Windows 10.
  • But it will become less secure over time because of missing updates.
  • Some software and hardware may stop being compatible gradually.

Extended Security Option for businesses

Microsoft will offer paid extended security updates (ESU) for organizations that need more time before upgrading.
